HOUSTON (ICIS)–Badlands NGLs plans to build a second polyethylene (PE) complex in North America, in addition to the one it announced earlier in North Dakota, the US-based start-up said on Monday.

Each site will have two 600,000 tonne/year reactor lines, bringing the total to 2.4m tonnes/year, Badlands said.

The company picked Dow Chemical’s UNIPOL PE Process technology for the four lines, which Dow sells under its subsidiary, Univation Technologies.

The lines will use Univation’s linear low density PE (LLDPE) and high-density PE (HDPE) catalysts, including PRODIGY bimodal HDPE, ACCLAIM unimodal HDPE and XCAT metallocene LLDPE catalysts.

Earlier this year, Badlands announced that it signed an ethane supply agreement with Continental Resources for its North Dakota complex.

Badlands has not said when production should start at the plants.
