LONDON (ICIS)--Ethylene glycol (EG) imports into the EU from the rest of the world were up by 45% year on year in February, while exports dropped, data from European statistics agency Eurostat showed this week.

February imports amounted to 53,047 tonnes in February 2016, up from 36,500 tonnes in the previous year.

The New Year began with historically low prices in Asia, which may have spurred the interest of European buyers.

Their interest already peaked in the fourth quarter of 2015, when a series of factors dried up supplies. However, balance was soon restored, and the market fundamentals moved into buyers’ favour.

Exports dropped to just over 2,000 tonnes in February 2016, compared with just over 3,000 tonnes in the February before.
