SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s CPC Corp has decided not to restart its idled toluene disproportionation (TDP) unit at Linyuan in Kaohsiung, a company source said on Wednesday.
The company had been considering whether to restart the unit since early April, after idling it since the first half of 2014, the source said, adding that an improvement in margins was what prompted the producer to consider a restart.
The decision not to restart it was attributed to the fact that they would need to also run their downstream plant to make it economical, the source said, adding that the company does not have any plans to restart its PX unit.
“It is unlikely that the plant will return to a profitable state if we do not restart our downstream facility to consume the IX,” the source added.
The No 1 TDP unit can produce a total of 90,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 230,000 tonnes/year of isomer xylenes.
