TORONTO (ICIS)--Bridgestone is investing $250m to expand its tyre plant in Joliette in Canada’s Quebec province, the international tyre major confirmed on Friday.
The expansion project is expected to raise the plant’s capacity to around 20,000 tyres/day by 2023.
The plant, which started operations in 1966, specialises in tyres for passenger cars, SUVs and commercial vans.
With 1,300 workers, it is one of the biggest employers in the Lanaudiere region north of Montreal.
The automotive industry is a major global consumer of petrochemicals which contributes more than a third of the raw material costs of an average vehicle.
