ExxonMobil Singapore plant maintenance to last several weeks

SINGAPORE (ICIS)–Exxonmobil on Monday started a scheduled planned maintenance at its Singapore Chemical Plant (SCP) which will last several weeks, according to a company spokesperson.
“Some of our operating units will be shutting down during this time,” the spokesperson said. The units affected by the maintenance were not disclosed.
ExxonMobil is expected to shut its 1m tonnes/year cracker in April for a turnaround which could last as long as 60 days, according to market sources.
The company shut its two downstream polyethylene (PE) plants early in the week of 13 March for maintenance, market sources said.
The company has a total of three PE plants with a combined capacity of 1.9m tonnes/year.
The Singapore Chemical Plant also houses a 900,000 tonnes/year cracker as well as an aromatics plant which can produce 530,000 tonnes/year of paraxylene (PX). (please table below for other capacities)
“Shutting down the units will provide an opportunity for detailed inspection of equipment normally in continuous operation; routine maintenance; and installation of facility improvement projects,” the spokesperson said.
“Unit shutdowns such as this are infrequent, but are necessary to ensure continued safe and reliable operations,” she said.
The company has told its customers about the scheduled turnaround and “expect to meet their business needs” during the period, the spokesperson added.
