LONDON (ICIS)–Qatar Chemical and Petrochemical Marketing and Distribution Company (Muntajat) will exclusively market, sell and distribute Qatar’s 2.3m tonnes/year of sulphur from 1 January, the company said on Thursday.

Qatar’s sulphur production is expected to increase to over 4m tonnes/year by 2020, once its liquefied natural gas (LNG) target of 100m tonnes/year is reached.

Muntajat is state-owned and distributes fertilizers, polymers and other petrochemicals from Qatar.

Qatar’s sulphur is currently marketed by Qatar Petroleum for the Sale of Petroleum Products (QPSPP), which is also a wholly state-owned company.

QPSPP could not be immediately reached for comment.

In August, Muntajat signed a five-year memorandum of understnading (MoU) with the company managing Qatar’s ports, known as Mwani Qatar, to ship from Hamad port to Shanghai port in China, as well as the ports of Mandra and Nhava Sheva in India.

Other ports included Sohar and Salalah in Oman and Port Dier Banji in Turkey, and the company said at the time it had plans to expand the number of destinations in the near future.
