SABIC starts up new PP extrusion line at Geleen, the Netherlands

LONDON (ICIS)–SABIC’s new polypropylene (PP) line at its Geleen, Netherlands, complex is now fully operational, the Saudi Arabia-headquartered chemicals producer said on Monday.

The unit will produce PP products and copolymers targeted at industries including the packaging and automotive sectors, which are seeking to develop more lightweight products and to reduce energy consumption, the company said.

The facility will be located next to SABIC’s existing polymerisation plant. The capacity of the unit was not disclosed.

“We are… helping our customers reduce energy consumption by lowering processing temperatures and shortening cycle time,” said SABIC PP Europe director Sjoerd Zuidema.

The start-up follows a short shutdown of polymers units at the site on 28 November to facilitate repairs to a water system at the site, followed by the phased restart of PP and some polyethylene (PE) capacities at the site on 30 November.
