LONDON (ICIS)–APIC confirmed late on Friday it would hold its annual conference on 20-21 August in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after the country’s general election was to coincide with the initial date for the event in May.

APIC confirmed the information disclosed by ICIS earlier on Friday after a source at the Malaysian Petrochemicals Association (MPA) said dates might change due to a declared public holiday for 9 May.

The APIC 2018 meeting was expected to take place on 9-10 May.

However, the Election Commission of Malaysia has called an election for 9 May and declared the day a public holiday to make voting more accessible.

“Due to this recent development, it has become necessary for us to change the event date from 9-10 May to 20-21 August 2018, with no change to the event venue,” said APIC.

“The change in date will allow us to better host the delegates, sponsors, exhibitors and participants of APIC 2018 with Malaysia’s warm hospitality.”
