LONDON (ICIS)–With the second quarter of 2018 now underway, ICIS editor Helena Strathearn explains what the supply and pricing impacts from maintenance turnarounds planned in the acrylates sector are likely to be, amid a healthy demand quarter.

She also explains the outlook on the European acrylic acid and acrylate esters markets, with a focus on expected supply and demand trends until June. The interview was carried out by senior editor manager Katherine Sale.

Acrylic acid is used as a raw material to make super absorbent polymer (SAP) for the manufacture of disposable nappies, surgical pads and other personal care items.

Acrylate esters are used to make paints, coatings, textiles, adhesives, polishes and plastics. They include methyl acrylate (MA), ethyl acrylate (EA), BA and 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate (2-EHA).
