HOUSTON (ICIS)–KBR has won a contract for work on Methanex’s potential third methanol project at Geismar, Louisiana, the US petrochemicals engineer said on Tuesday.

Canada-based Methanex awarded KBR a reimbursable engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract to provide front end engineering design (FEED) services for a 5,000 tonne/day world-scale methanol plant at Geismar, KBR said.

The FEED work is expected to be completed over the next 12 months, with a final investment decision (FID) expected by mid-2019.

Methanex CEO John Floren said in a conference call last week that production from the new plant being considered would all go to exports markets.

The new plant would be built next to Methanex’s two existing methanol plants in Geismar.
