HOUSTON (ICIS)–The US Trade Representative (USTR) office on Tuesday finalised its second list for $16bn worth of Chinese imports subject to a 25% tariff, saying US Customs officials will begin collecting duties on 23 August.
This second list follows the 6 July list of tariffs on $34bn worth of Chinese goods, totalling approximately $50bn when combined.
The finalised list contains 279 tariffs from the June list of 284.
An updated list of the tariff will be published in the Federal Register, the USTR office added.
The USTR office referenced its Section 301 investigation, which it said found China’s acts, policies and practices in regards to technology transfer and other economic actions “burden” US commerce.
As with the previous tariff announcement, interested parties will be given the opportunity to request exemptions from tariffs on certain products.
