APIC ’18: Thai production of major polymers rise by 3% in 2017

KUALA LUMPUR (ICIS)–Thailand’s production of major polymers rose by 3% year on year in 2017, supported by strong demand in both domestic and export markets, especially for polypropylene (PP) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC), the Petrochemical Industry Club, Federation of Thai Industries (FTIPC) said on Monday.
The country’s production of ethylene, meanwhile, rose to 4.58m tonnes in 2018 from 4.28m tonnes a year earlier.
The FTIPC published the data in a report for the 2018 Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference (APIC) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which runs on 20-21 August.
“Domestic demand for PP increased by 6% [year
on year] as a result of the upward trend in
packaging segment, while PVC exports increased
by 43% due to strong demand from the
construction segment in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar
and Vietnam,” FTIPC said.
