MOSCOW (MRC)–Imports of suspension polyvinyl chloride (SPVC) into Ukraine decreased by 36% in the first nine months of this year, compared to the same period in 2017, according to MRC DataScope.

PVC imports into Ukraine stood at 53,200 tonnes for the nine-month period.

The sharp fall could be attributed to higher output by local Ukrainian producers.

The largest share of the 53,200 tonnes of PVC into the country came from the US, with 33,000 tonnes being dispatched; the figure was down from the 40,600 tonnes sent from the US to Ukraine in the nine-month period of 2017.

Total imports of European PVC into Ukraine stood at 18,900 tonnes in the first nine months of 2018, down from 27,300 tonnes a year earlier.

Local producer Karpatneftekhim plans to shut down its PVC production facilities for a turnaround on 5 November, until 9 December. The plant’s production capacity stands at 300,000 tonnes/year.
