CANCUN, Mexico (ICIS)–Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) business in Argentina is expected to pick up starting March 2019, local industry participants said on Tuesday on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the Latin American Petrochemical Association (APLA).

Argentina’s presidential elections to be held on 27 October 2019 will start to drive infrastructure construction activity, along with PVC consumption, as the current government appeals to potential voters with public construction projects, the sources said.

Currently, PVC demand in Argentina has been slow in November, and is expected to decline in December on inventory reduction and on fewer working days during the holiday season.

High interest rates are driving participants to maintain low inventories to reduce financial costs, the sources said.

The APLA annual meeting runs through Tuesday.
