Dow Chemical of the US, Sinopec and Tianjin Petrochemical Corp (TPC) have signed a letter of intent to develop an integrated ethylene and downstream derivatives project in Tianjin.
The first phase will consist of an ethylene cracker along with a number of derivatives plants.
The pre-feasibility study and project proposal are under development. The partners disclosed that the complex is set to start up in 2000, although no value or capacity data were disclosed.
'Dow has a long cooperative relationship with Sinopec and its subsidiaries, said Dow's president and chief executive officer, William Stavropoulos.
Sinopec's president, Sheng Huaren, said the project under study is world-scale. 'Dow is one of the world's renowned chemical companies, especially in advanced plastics production technology, research and development, and is a leader in the world market,' he said. 'I believe that our mutual cooperation will help to enhance the technology of our country's petrochemical industry, our management standards and enable the development of our industry.'
