LONDON (CNI)--Anglo-Dutch group Shell Chemicals said Thursday it has amended its agreement with Germany's Bayer regarding the allocation of products from their isocyanates joint venture at Antwerp, Belgium.

Until now, Bayer-Shell Isocyanates' (BSI) toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) and diphenyl methane di-isocyanate (MDI) output has been divided equally between the two partners. Under the new agreement, effective 1 July, Shell will take all the TDI and Bayer will take the MDI.

Shell said it needs the extra TDI to support its expanding propylene oxide (PO) business. It has no further need for the MDI since it no longer markets rigid polyurethane foams to any great extent, it added.

BSI produces 36 000 tonne/year of MDI and 30 000 tonne/year of TDI at Antwerp.
