LONDON (CNI)--Lucite International hopes to resume production of methyl methacrylate (MMA) at its Billingham, Teesside, UK plant within the next seven days.

David Brooks, business director for monomers, told CNI on Monday that the plant was still down but he said production was expected to resume within a week.

Lucite, the world's largest MMA producer, was forced to close the plant two weeks ago because of an unspecified technical problem.

Brooks confirmed that Lucite had not declared force majeure and he said there were no plans to do so.
