PARIS (CNI)--The European Commission (EC) has proposed that the potentially toxic solvent toluene should not be used to make adhesives or spray paints intended for sale to the general public, where its concentration is 0.1 % or more by mass.

It has also proposed that the solvent trichlorobenzene (TCB) should not be used as a substance or constituent of preparations in the same concentration (0.1 % by mass or more) for all uses, “except as an intermediate.”

The move follows Commission assessments of their risks to human health and the environment.
