Singapore (CNI)--Formosa BP Chemicals Corp (FBPCC) plans to bring onstream its 300,000 tonne/year acetic acid plant at Mailiao, Taiwan, in May 2005, a source close to the company told CNI on Friday.
The project at Mailiao Industrial District had an initial capital of $48.9m (Euro36.5m), with Taiwan's Formosa Chemicals & Fiber Corp (FCFC) and BP each taking a 50% stake.
FBPCC, which was established at the end of 2002, purchased the Cativa technology for producing acetic acid from BP for $11m.
The key feedstock carbon monoxide will be supplied captively by the company’s 200,000-tonne/year plant at the same site, while FBPCC ironing out the details of its supply of methanol feedstock.
