LONDON (CNI)--A power outage at the TRN Vlissingen refinery in the Netherlands has had no impact on benzene in the Total system so far, but any prolonged problems could affect benzene as feedstocks were hit, a company official said on Thursday.
There could be some impact on mixed xylenes, according to industry sources, but another Total official said the company would not comment on this at present. An update may be available later in the day.
The refinery went down between 12.00 and 13.00 hours local time (11.00 and 12.00 hours GMT) on Tuesday after a malfunction of a power switch at the Borselle nuclear plant, which supplies Vlissingen.
Although the unit resumed production immediately, it was not expected to come back to full production until the middle of next week.
The 160,000 bbl/day refinery has two gasoil hydrotreaters, producing 120,000 of diesel/month. It is a joint venture between Total and Dow Chemical.
