TORONTO (ICIS news)--MAN Ferrostaal, a Germany-based engineering group, is planning to take over Eurotecnica Melamine, according to a European Union (EU) regulatory filing made available on Thursday.

Eurotecnica Melamine is a privately held Italy-based melamine technology and engineering business.

Industry participants described the proposed transaction as a very important development for melamine makers.

In 2005, Austria’s Agrolinz Melamine International (AMI), a melamine producer which also holds proprietary melamine production technologies, proposed to acquire Eurotecnica.

That deal fell apart after EU regulators said they would subject it to an in-depth review.

They were concerned that the acquisition by AMI of Eurotecnica, the only licensor of melamine production technology operating at a world-wide level, would pose serious risks to competition in the market.
