Reliance to build $3bn cracker, petchem complex

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Reliance Industries will build a $3bn integrated cracker and petrochemical complex at the Jamnagar special economic zone, which is scheduled to go on stream by 2010-2011, the Indian conglomerate said late on Saturday.

Using off-gas and other by-products from its neighbouring 30m tonne/year refinery as feedstock, the complex will produce 2m tonnes/year of  ethylene, propylene and other downstream commodity and specialty derivatives, the company said in a statement.

Reliance added that this integrated project in the western Indian state of Gujarat will make it on par with the most efficient producers of olefins and derivatives in the world, including those in the Middle East.
