LONDON (ICIS news)--Arkema’s methylene chloride plant at Lavera, France, was expected to restart next week, having been forced to close temporarily on 23 May due to a fire at the site, a company source said on Thursday.
The plant, which has an estimated capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year, was essentially undamaged by the fire, and only minor repairs were needed to bring it back on stream.
Arkema had sufficient stocks of methylene chloride to continue delivering material to customers during the outage, according to the company source.
The plant was brought down at the same time as several other facilities at Lavera, including Arkema’s vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) unit.
Other European producers of methylene chloride include INEOS ChlorVinyls, Dow, Solvay and LII Europe.
