MOSCOW (ICIS news)--Russian potash producer Uralkali recorded net profits of roubles (Rb) 5.01bn (€141m/$201m) in January-September, 48% up year on year on increasing sales volumes, good market conditions and continued cost-cutting measures, the company said in statement on Thursday.

Uralkali recorded Rb 3.39bn in net profits for the first nine months of 2006, 35% down on the year-ago period, according to the statement.

Earlier this month, Uralkali placed 14.4% of its shares in an initial public offering that raised $1.07bn.

Based in Berezniki in the Perm region of the Urals, Uralkali is the world's fifth biggest potash producer, exporting some 80% of its potash output.
