Venezuela Estizulia to stop PS plant in December

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Venezuelan polystyrene (PS) producer Estizulia will stop its production plant during the whole month of December for scheduled maintenance, a company source said on Friday.

The 70,000 tonnes/year El Tablazo plant, located in Zulia state, will start the process of stopping the plant by 29 November. The maintenance procedure will last until the end of December, if everything goes according to schedule, the source said.

Estizulia is building inventories to cope with contractual obligations during the period of plant inactivity. The needs of the domestic market and some key clients in Colombia will be covered, but other exports may suffer, the source said.

The sales force will continue to work until 15 December, returning on 15 January after their annual vacation, the source said.

October PS demand was strong in Venezuela, and this was in part attributed to pre-buying ahead of November price increases.
