Bangladesh urea unit shutdown for gas pipe work

LONDON (ICIS news)--Bangladesh urea producer Kafco, was forced to shut down its Chittagong unit so a gas pipeline could be cleaned, a company source said on Thursday.

 

In total, around 20,000 tonnes of urea destined for the domestic Bangladesh market was lost because of the outage.

 

The ammonia/urea facility, which has a capacity of around 670,000 tonnes/year of urea, was closed on 11 November.

 

The plant was restarted 21 November and is now running normally.

 

Other government owned units at the Chittagong facility, including a 150,000 tonne/year DAP plant, were also closed while the gas pipeline was cleaned.
