NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--The global diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer supply/demand balance looks set to remain tight through 2010, said Luc Maene, director general at the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) on Thursday.

“Between 2006 and 2011, [global] phosphate capacity is projected to increase, mostly in the form of DAP, at a rate of 4.2%/year,” said Maene speaking at the annual Fertilizer Association of India (FAI) conference.

“Global DAP consumption is forecast to grow at an annual rate of 3% between 2007 and 2011,” he added.

“A surplus exceeding 1.6m tonnes P2O5 (nutrient tonnes) may develop after 2011, if new large DAP projects are realised.”

“World phosphate fertilizer capacity developments will essentially focus on DAP in exporting countries. Projects in Brazil, China, Morocco, Pakistan, Russia and Venezuela will be realised between 2008 and 2010”, added Maene.

The annual Fertilizer Association of India (FAI) conference takes place in Delhi from the 5-7 December.
