UK road hauliers threaten to blockade oil refineriesLONDON (ICIS news)--Members of  Transaction 2007 will meet on Thursday night to discuss launching a protest against rising UK fuel prices including the possibility of blockading oil refineries and petrol stations, the truckers' action group said.

"Blockades are possible, if the mood is there," said the group's spokesman Chris Hunter.

There was a strong indication members wanted to protest but at the upcoming meeting a decision would be made about where the action was going to go, added Transaction 2007's liaison officer Mike Presneill.

Meanwhile, the Road Haulage Association (RHA), which represents the industry, said in a statement it had surveyed members and there was “no universal mood to embark upon a serious public protest”.

However, it would support any group of members who wished to take action, the association added.

Transaction 2007 is the same group that organised farmers and haulage contractors in 2000 into major protests, including the blockading of refineries, which saw the country grind to a halt.
