TORONTO (ICIS news)--The styrenics joint venture between Dow Chemical and Chevron Phillips Chemical - first announced in April - will be known as Americas Styrenics and headed by Tim Roberts, currently styrenics general manager for CPC, the companies said on Thursday.

Thomas Egolf, currently finance director for Dow Technology Licensing, had been named chief financial officer, while Peter Ott would join as vice president of operations and Scot Mitchell as commercial vice president, the companies said in a joint statement.

Ott was currently the vice president of manufacturing for Dow's MEGlobal joint venture with Kuwaits' Petrochemical Industries Company, and Mitchell was the global manager of polystyrene (PS) for Chevron Phillips, they said.

The new company would be based in Houston and have about 600 employees across the Americas.

Dow was contributing six PS plants to Americas Styrenics - Torrance, California; Gales Ferry, Connecticut; Ironton, Ohio; Joliet, Illinois; Guaruja, Brazil and Cartagena, Colombia.

Dow's styrene plant in Camacari, Brazil, would not be included in the venture. Dow said earlier this week it would idle that facility.

Chevron Phillips intended to contribute a styrene monomer (SM) plant in St. James, Louisiana and a PS plant in Marietta, Ohio, the companies said, adding they expected to finalise the deal and start commercial operations in the first quarter of 2008.
