TORONTO (ICIS news)--The Arya Sasol Polymers joint venture of Iran's National Petrochemical Co has produced its first on-specification ethylene, the South African producer confirmed on Friday.

The plant at Assaluyeh was expected to begin sustainable on-spec production in the first quarter of 2008, Sasol said in an investor update on its website.

Ayra Sasol’s new low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant was virtually complete with commissioning activities on some systems already under way and start-up of polymer production likely in the first quarter of 2008.

Arya Sasol’s new high density PE (HDPE) plant was not likely to start up before the middle of 2008 because of some welding defects, Sasol said.
