MOSCOW (ICIS news)--Russia's major petrochemicals producer Salavatnefteorgsintez has approved a major expansion programme of its ethylene and polyethylene (PE) facilities for the 2008-2012 period, the company said on Tuesday.

The programme involved raising the company's ethylene capacity from 250,000 tonnes/year to 380,000 tonnes/year, as well as building a new 120,000 tonne/year PE facility, the statement said without disclosing more details.

Salavatnefteorgsintez produces about 8% of Russia’s total ethylene output, roughly a third of styrene and one-fifth of polystyrene (PS), as well as more than 500,000 tonnes/year of ammonia and about 700,000 tonnes/year of urea.
