LONDON (ICIS news)--LyondellBasell is to stop producing high melt strength (HMS) polypropylene (PP) because it is not economically viable, the company said on Wednesday.
“In light of our previously announced decision to close our Varennes site, where the HMS unit is located, further study concluded that continued HMS polypropylene production is not economically viable,” Yves Bonte, senior vice president of polypropylene at the company said.
LyondellBasell has no alternate manufacturing site for HMS polypropylene, so will be working with its customers to exit this business, Bonte added.
The HMS unit is expected to continue normal operations until then.
