SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--German chemicals group Lanxess has contracted with Shell Chemicals to supply raffinate 1 to its planned 100,000 tonnes/year butyl rubber facility in Jurong Island, Singapore, the company said on Tuesday.

Lanxess will get raffinate 1 from Shell Eastern Petrochemical Complex on Bukom Island and extract isobutene for its butyl rubber plant. It will then sell the byproduct, raffinate 2.

Lanxess also aims to conclude long term supply agreements with Asian producers for isoprene, another raw material for butyl rubber production, by 2010.

Lanxess’ butyl rubber facility is expected to come on stream by 2011.
