SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Saudi Arabian producer Eastern Petrochemical Co (Sharq) shut down one of its two linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) lines at Al-Jubail on Friday due to a technical problem, a source close to the company said.
“The problem is expected to be resolved in four days and the line should restart early next week,” the source said.
The two lines have a total capacity of 750,000 tonnes/year.
The outage will slightly aggravate the tight supply situation for LLDPE in the
Sharq officials were not immediately available for comment.
Sharq, a 50:50 joint venture of Saudi Basic Industries Corp (SABIC) and SPDC, a Japanese consortium headed by Mitsubishi Corp and Mitsubishi Chemical, also operates a 1.3m tonne/year cracker at Al-Jubail.
