LONDON (ICIS news)--Egyptian urea producer Helwan Fertilizers, has scheduled a maintenance turnaround in April, a company source said on Tuesday.

The 55,000 tonne/month granular urea unit, based in Helwan, south of Cairo, was expected to be closed for 12-15 days from 4/5 April to allow equipment specifications to be checked, the source added.

The shutdown would not cause any major disruption to its customers although it would mean less spot availability, Helwan said.

Instead of offering its remaining March product to the export market, Helwan was in negotiations to commit up to 40,000 tonnes instead of its usual 25,000 tonnes to the domestic market.

The price was also still under discussion.

Last month, the Egyptian producers were paid $425/tonne (€276/tonne) FCA (free carrier) for the tonnes committed to the domestic market.
