LONDON (ICIS news)--Ruwais Fertilizer Industries (Fertil) will shut down its urea unit in April following technical issues, a company source said on Wednesday.

The Abu Dhabi firm’s 1,800 tonne/day prilled urea unit has been operating around 200 tonnes/day below normal rates since the start of March and will continue to do so until mid-April, when the unit will be shut down for around 10 days for work to take place.

The company source said technical issues were behind the production disruption.

Fertil's contract customers would not be severely impacted by the outage, added the source, although some delays could occur.

Because it will have less supply than normal for the coming months, Fertil was unable to offer in the latest Indian MMTC tender.

Around eight days of production were lost by Fertil at the end of January/early February due to technical problems. The latest issues are believed to be related to these earlier ones.
