NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--India is set to grant environmental clearance to Asian Paints Limited’s rupees (Rs) 8.1bn ($200m) greenfield paints-cum-intermediates project at at Rohtak in northern
The 130-acre complex would have the capacity to produce 400,000 kilolitres/year of water and solvent-based paints. It would also have capacity to manufacture 160,000 kilolitres/year of resins and polymers, he said.
Earlier reports quoting Asian Paints officials had stated that the plant would initially have paints capacity of 150,000 kilolitres/year and would go on stream by the end of 2009.
The project's annual requirements for outsourced intermediates such as titanium dioxide, phthalic anhydride, pentaerythritol and calcium carbonate is estimated at 226,590 tonnes/year.
The official said that an appraisal committee of experts for industrial projects constituted by the Environment and Forests Ministry decided on 22 February to recommend to the government to grant environmental clearance to the project.
The committee, however, sought certain additional information on pollution control initiatives to be taken by the company at the project, he added.
