HOUSTON (ICIS news)--The US Coast Guard closed on Wednesday a 10-mile (16km) section of the Intracoastal Waterway near the Houston Ship Channel following a barge collision that led to a cyclohexane leak.

The Kirby 22302, moored at the Bolivar Fleeting area, was struck by a lead barge being pushed by the Taylor Marie, the Coast Guard said.

The collision created a softball-sized hole in a cargo tank, causing the cyclohexane to leak, the Coast Guard said. The leak has been contained, but the amount spilled is undetermined.

The Coast Guard is investigating the accident.
