TORONTO (ICIS news)--Braskem has started up a 350,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant at Paulinia in Sao Paulo state, the Brazil petrochemicals major said on Friday.

The reais (R) 700m ($420m) plant boosted Braskem’s overall annual PP production capacity to 1.1m tonnes/year, further strengthening its market leadership in South America, it said.

Brazil oil major Petrobras was supplying the plant’s propylene feedstock from two refineries in Sao Paulo state, Braskem said.

The project was the first of its PP plants to use propylene from refinery gas as feedstock, it added.
