SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Jilin Petrochemical plans to shut down its styrene monomer (SM), monoethylene glycol (MEG) and polyethylene (PE) units in line with a massive overhaul at its aromatics plant from 10 May, a company source said on Monday.
The 30-day turnaround at the aromatics unit will precede the shutdown at Jilin, which would include the 30-day shutdown of its SM line, said the source, adding that the company also planned to shut down its MEG and PE units.
The 160,000 tonne/year MEG unit would be shut down for around 20 days from 14 May to 5 June while its high density PE (HDPE) and linear low density PE (LLDPE) plants would be shut down on 8 May and 14 May respectively, the source said.
The HDPE and LLDPE units were expected to face production losses of around 25,000-30,000 tonnes and 23,000-27,000 tonnes respectively, the source added.
The maintenance shutdown at Jilin would have an impact on the markets in May, said most traders.
