SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Around 10 trucks carrying nearly 200 tonnes of toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) have been stranded on a major road in the northeast of Sichuan province since Monday’s earthquake, a local logistics company source said on Thursday.
The trucks, which were loaded in Shanghai, had entered Sichuan from the neighbouring province of Shaanxi, the source added.
"The trucks will press on to deliver the cargoes to Chengdu when the roads are repaired and cleared of debris resulting from the quake," he said in Mandarin, adding that it could take more than 20 days for the roads to be restored to normal conditions.
"But transportation of medicine, food and rescue equipment will be prioritised, so the delivery would have to wait," he said.
The trucks posed no danger to the people in the surrounding areas as they hadn't been damaged and were waiting for the roads to be cleared, the source added.
"We understand that the TDI end-users in Chengdu were unscathed by the quake, but they probably will be out of action for at least a few weeks because the place is in a mess now," he said.
Thousands of people were killed and infrastructure substantially damaged in Chengdu, Sichuan’s capital city about 100 km from Wenchuan, the epicentre of the quake.
