TORONTO (ICIS news)--Airgas is donating $300,000 to charity to support US soldiers and aims to hire 100 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans in the coming 12 months, the US industrial gases firm said on Wednesday.

In addition, Airgas said it would offer a “Welding 101” course to any veteran interested in exploring a career in welding.

The charity, Operation Homefront, supported soldiers and their families while deployed overseas and helped wounded soldiers when they returned home, the company said.

“As our nation enters the sixth year of military involvement in Iraq and the seventh year in Afghanistan, it is difficult to grasp the immense sacrifices our military community has made over the course of this fight,” said Airgas CEO Peter McCausland.
