Dow raises Europe cracker rates on ethylene FM

DowLONDON (ICIS news)--Dow Europe has increased rates at its European crackers to offset the unplanned shutdown of its Terneuzen 2 cracker in the Netherlands, a company source said on Friday.

Last week Dow announced that it was cutting operating rates at all its European crackers by 5% as margins were being heavily squeezed by record high naphtha prices.

However, it was obliged to declare force majeure (FM) on ethylene (C2) following an unexpected outage at its 575,000 tonnes/year ethylene cracker at Terneuzen, one of three operated by Dow at the site.

The restart of this cracker was anticipated in the next couple of days.
