HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) dropped in April more than 15% to 37,111 tonnes, compared with the same period of the previous year, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Tuesday.
April exports were down 23% from 47,892 tonnes in March, the ITC said. Germany, Canada, Belgium and Mexico were the top four export destinations, accounting for 18,096 tonnes or 49% of total shipments.
US VAM exports have climbed over 37% in the first four months of 2008, maintaining an effort by producers to find foreign revenue to make up for weak domestic sales, sources said.
US Gulf coast export prices have ranged from $1,200-$1,250/tonne free on board (FOB), according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
US VAM producers include Celanese, Dow Chemical, DuPont and LyondellBasell.
