SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Shandong Binhua is shutting down its 110,000 tonne/year plant on 20 June for 10 days to prepare for the start-up of its fourth production line, a source at China’s biggest propylene oxide (PO) merchant seller by volume said on Monday.

Things are on schedule and we expect the new line to come on stream along with the existing lines by end-June,” he added.

The new line would add 60,000 tonnes/year of capacity to the existing 110,000 tonnes/year.

“Shandong Binhua does not have much inventory at the moment and the shutdown will further limit the tightly supplied local market,” an end-user said.

PO hit a record high of yuan (CNY) 17,600-18,000/tonne ($2,551-2,609/tonne) DEL (delivered) last week on feedstock propylene costs and could rise further this week.

($1 = CNY6.90)
