LONDON (ICIS news)--Cefic (European Chemical Industry Council) on Monday launched a consortium for lower olefins and aromatics producers to aid registering chemicals for the Reach regulation.

The pre-registration phase of the EU’s Reach (registration, evaluation and authorisation of chemicals) scheme began on 1 June and requires the assessment of over 30,000 chemicals.

Cefic said that, through the LOA Consortium, manufacturers have decided to join efforts to prepare consistent registration dossiers covering approximately 170 substances within 20 categories before 30 November.

“The daily management will be handled by a team of experts that has an in-depth knowledge of REACh, and of petrochemicals processes, gained from practical experience in the olefins, aromatics and related industries,” said executive director of the Cefic’s petrochemistry industry sector Pierre de Kettenis.
