SHANGHAI (ICIS news)--Shanghai BASF Polyurethane Co (SBPC) restarted its 160,000 tonne/year toluene di-isocyanate (TDI) plant over the weekend after a maintenance and was ramping up operating rates, a company source said on Wednesday.

SBPC shut down the TDI plant, located at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park at Caojing in Shanghai, in early June for a two-to-three-week scheduled turnaround.

Spot drummed TDI dropped yuan (CNY) 500-2,000/tonne($73-291/tonne) from last week to CNY46,000-47,500/tonne DEL (delivered) all regions amid low trading volumes and weak buying sentiment.

TDI is a feedstock for polyurethane (PU), which is used in the automobile, construction and footwear industries.
