HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Brazil is preparing a plan to raise domestic production of fertilizers in response to the high cost of importing the agricultural chemicals, official sources said on Wednesday.

Agriculture minister Reinhold Stephanes said the 5-10 year plan aims to reduce Brazil’s dependence on imported goods.

Brazil imports more than 70% of the nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers it consumes.
