NEW YORK (ICIS news)--German producer Evonik and Russia’s Synttech Group may establish a partnership to produce thermal blacks, Evonik said on Tuesday.

“The planned cooperation with Synttech takes into account the fast growing eastern European economy, especially in Russia,” said Thomas Hermann, president of Evonik’s inorganic materials business unit.

The two companies signed a letter of intent on 30 June, and they will jointly examine the financial and technical feasibility of the project in the coming weeks, according to Evonik.

The goal of the partnership would be to build and operate a plant capable of producing about 20,000 tonnes/year of thermal blacks from natural gas. Evonik and Synttech would be jointly responsible for marketing and sales.
