HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US imports of ammonia in May were 746,769 tonnes, or 16.7% higher than the same month a year before, according to the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

Imports in the month were 5.4% more than the 708,427 tonnes imported in April.

Some market sources believe that since Terra has restarted a plant in Donaldsonville earlier than expected and another facility run by Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan in Trinidad has come back online, US demand for ammonia imports may decrease in the immediate short-term.

Ammonia prices were $585/tonne (€369/tonne) CFR Tampa in the week ended on 11 July, up from $510/tonne four weeks ago.
